Agradecimentos

A direção da Associação Portuguesa de Antropologia quer agradecer a participação de todas e todos no evento de Évora em setembro passado

Tivemos um congresso com cerca de 700 participantes, onde se criaram importantes momentos de debate científico, bem como momentos culturais e de convívio abertos à cidade, que esperamos tenham aproximado a antropologia da comunidade eborense.

Agradecemos os apoios de todas as instituições parceiras, locais e nacionais, sem as quais o congresso não teria sido possível. Além da Universidade de Évora e da Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, entidades que acolheram este congresso internacional e cujas equipas técnicas estiveram disponíveis para nos receber, queremos também expressar um especial agradecimento à Universidade de Coimbra, pelo empréstimo de equipamento, e congratulamos o profissionalismo da eventQualia na gestão do evento.

Agradecemos igualmente o esforço e dedicação das nossas equipas de trabalho, com especial gratidão à Comissão Local de Évora, composta pelos Professores Célia Lopes, Ema Pires, Jorge Rivera e Teresa Fernandes, e à nossa incansável equipa de apoio, sem a qual não teria sido possível ter mais de 25 salas em funcionamento com painéis em simultâneo.

Resta-nos deixar um agradecimento final às equipas do secretariado da APA (Ana Margarida Guerra e Laura Almodovar), site e design gráfico, elementos chave para a feliz execução deste Congresso.

The New 20s: Challenges, Uncertainties and Resistances
The 8th Congress of the Portuguese Anthropological Association (APA) will take place in Évora in September 2022, at a time that we hope will be different from the one we live in today.

The pandemic, which reconfigured our lives and social practices, accentuated doubts and uncertainties, brought fears and apprehensions, and reinforced the need to understand what is happening in the world. We questioned the sustainability of the planet, the balance in the relationship between humans and non-humans (or lack thereof); we confirmed the precariousness of life, the collapse of health systems; we discussed the control of States over our routines, our bodies, and this made us discover new dimensions in our lives.

Now we want to turn a new page
The new 20s are just that: to think that, in the ashes of a decade that has ended, there is a new one at the door – timid, to be sure – but full of challenges.

What expectations do we build for the future? What do we fear, as anthropologists, in public policies, in the scarcities and needs of the communities, in acquired rights? What paths do we take in the reconfiguration of concepts such as normality, routine, private and public space? Which resistances and uncertainties will emerge in the coming years?

In this 8th Congress, we await signs and working hypotheses. We can always continue to observe, listen, record and (re)act. What else can we do as anthropologists engaged with the world and the society(ies) in which we live and work?

The APA Congress takes place in a format we call Face-to-face Plus.

We will have the right conditions for a great face-to-face meeting at the beautiful University of Évora, complete with a cultural programme open to the city, but we accept the remote participation of people who cannot travel to Évora.
