The APA Congress takes place in a format we call Face-to-face Plus.

We will have the right conditions for a great face-to-face meeting at the beautiful University of Évora, complete with a cultural programme open to the city, but we accept the remote participation of people who cannot travel to Évora.

The 8th APA Congress (Évora, September 6-9) was designed to be a face-to-face meeting. After the 7th Congress held in 2019 in Lisbon (NOVA FCSH) we wanted to leave the capital and think about the (and in the) south inland of the country, electing the city of Évora and its university as the host for APA's next congress.

During this time, and with a pandemic crisis in the middle, we had doubts and uncertainties - as is one of the mottos of the 8th Congress - but we persisted in this project. The local commission, composed of Professors from the University of Évora, helped us nurture this idea: it was important and desirable that people who think and make Anthropology in today's world could meet in-person, after two years of experiencing the limitations (and advantages, of course) of digital platforms, to gather in Évora, around a table, to talk, reflect (and also eat) together.

We also know that we want to create an inclusive congress, a congress that takes into account the difficulties and challenges created and accentuated, first by the pandemic, and now by the war in Europe.

In this sense, and responding to the various requests we have received, we are working very hard for a face-to-face congress in Évora, rich in debates and in its cultural programme, in dialogue with that territory. Congress participants will be able to stay in the university residences and have free use of U-Bike bicycles, in order to have the most accessible and inclusive participation possible. On the other hand, the possibility of participating online in panels and attending conferences remotely will allow the full participation of colleagues who cannot join us in Évora next September.

Since APA will have increased costs with the creation of the technical conditions for online participation, the registration fees remain the same whether the participation is face-to-face or remote.
