Etnografias da religião, das religiosidades e das experiências religiosas nos novos anos 20, do século XXI.
Resumo curto / Short abstract
Questionaremos e debateremos em torno dos desafios, incertezas e resistências que se colocam, no âmbito da religião, das religiosidades e das experiências religiosas, nestes novos anos vinte, do século XXI. Acolhem-se estudos antropológicos que abordem a religião e as suas versões desinstitucionalizadas, no atual contexto, de modo reflexivo e crítico.
Resumo longo / Long abstract
É frequentemente atribuída ao escritor André Malraux a profética e enigmática afirmação: “o século XXI será religioso ou não será”. Podemos duvidar da autoria da frase, mas não podemos duvidar da presença do religioso no século XXI. Contudo, neste início de século parecem evidentes as mudanças nas experiências religiosas, enquanto conexão com o transcendente, nas religiosidades, enquanto manifestações destas, e na religião, enquanto sistema institucionalizado de ambas. O aumento das mobilidades humanas e da utilização de meios tecnológicos intensificou e transformou as formas de aproximação ao outro, originando reconfigurações também na esfera religiosa, expressas nas crenças, nas práticas e nos modos de vivenciar e criar os legados ligados a espaços, tempos, pessoas ou coisas sagradas. A pandemia Covid19 veio, por seu lado, potenciar estas transformações na vida religiosa de pessoas e grupos das sociedades contemporâneas, cujos dimensões estão ainda por aferir. Assim, é urgente discutir como é que, antes e durante a atual pandemia, se têm operado as resignificações da religião, no âmbito não só dos seus aderentes, mas também dos seus patrimónios culturais (materiais e imateriais) associados, e ainda em dimensões particularmente interligadas às expressões religiosas, como sejam o turismo, a saúde, as economias e consumos, e as relações sociais e de poder. Este painel propõe-se apelar aos contributos antropológicos que questionam que desafios, incertezas e resistências se lhes apresentam nestes novos anos vinte, do século XXI.

We will question and debate on the challenges, uncertainties and resistances that arise, in the context of religion, religiosities and religious experiences, in these new twenties of the 21st century. Anthropological studies that approach religion and its deinstitutionalized versions are welcomed, in the current context, in a reflective and critical way.

The prophetic and enigmatic statement is often attributed to the writer André Malraux: “the 21st century will be religious or it will not be”. We can doubt the authorship of the phrase, but we cannot doubt the presence of the religious sphere in the 21st century. However, at the beginning of this century, changes seem to be evident in religious experiences, as a connection with the transcendent, in religiosities, as manifestations of such experiences, and in religion, as an institutionalized system of both. The increase in human mobility and the use of technological means have intensified and transformed the ways of approaching the other, giving rise to reconfigurations also in the religious sphere, expressed in beliefs, practices and ways of experiencing and creating legacies linked to spaces, times, people or sacred things. The Covid19 pandemic has, in turn, enhanced these transformations in the religious life of people and groups in contemporary societies, whose dimensions are yet to be assessed. Thus, it is urgent to discuss how, before and during the current pandemic, the resignifications of religion have been operated, in the scope not only of its adherents, but also of its associated cultural heritage (material and immaterial), and even in particularly dimensions interconnected with religious expressions, such as tourism, health, economies and consumption, and social and power relations. This panel invites anthropological contributions that question what challenges, uncertainties and resistances present themselves in these new twenties, of the 21st century.
